Former McPherson mayor, wife inducted into college's Academe of Achievers

MCPHERSON, Kan. — Former McPherson Mayor Tom Brown and his wife, Kathy, were inducted into the Central Christian College of Kansas Academe of Achievers during the school's spring commencement ceremonies over the weekend. The honor recognizes the couple's decades of local leadership, faith and community service.

Tom Brown, who served 16 years as a nonpartisan elected official before retiring as mayor in January, was also commended for his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was wounded in action during the Vietnam War.

Kathy Brown was celebrated for her career as a speech therapist and her extensive work as a community volunteer. College officials praised the couple for building an enduring legacy of purpose and generosity that extends across multiple generations. Their influence remains closely tied to the institution, where their daughter is a graduate — a connection administrators said stretches far beyond professional titles to the everyday citizens they have served.
