Forged in Hutchinson: New auto shop to offer repairs, hands-On learning under one roof

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson entrepreneur has secured $150,000 in financing to open a full-service automotive repair shop that will also serve as a hands-on learning space for community members and students.

Elijah Crist, a Hutchinson native, received a Network Kansas loan made possible through matching funds from First National Bank to launch Forged Automotive LLC at 800 S. Main St. The business will offer comprehensive vehicle repair and maintenance services alongside a DIY workspace and educational clinics.

What sets Forged Automotive apart from traditional repair shops is its planned DIY membership model. Members will have access to tool rentals, repair resources, and technical guidance from staff — catering to community members interested in hands-on car repair as well as students seeking real-world mechanical experience.

The financing was facilitated through StartUp Hutch, a local entrepreneurship support organization.

"We're proud to support entrepreneurs who are building businesses that strengthen our local economy and serve the community in meaningful ways," a StartUp Hutch spokesperson said.

Network Kansas is a statewide nonprofit that connects entrepreneurs with capital, resources and mentorship. Its loan programs are frequently paired with local bank matching funds to support small business development in Kansas communities.

A launch date for Forged Automotive LLC has not yet been announced.
