Five Hutchinson firefighters earn advanced medical certifications

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — Five Hutchinson firefighters have earned Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certifications, joining the department's existing medical response capabilities and strengthening emergency services for Reno County residents.
Captain Raya, Engineer A. Arheart, Engineer Ice, Engineer Richardson and Engineer K. Graves completed the rigorous AEMT program and passed the National Registry certification exam, the Hutchinson Fire Department announced.
The newly certified firefighters will join five current AEMTs within the department to provide advanced patient care in the field alongside Reno County EMS, fire officials said.
"These five newly certified AEMTs will now join the ranks of the five current AEMTs within the department, further strengthening our ability to support Reno County EMS with advanced patient care in the field," the department said in a statement.
The AEMT program requires completion of extensive coursework and clinical training before firefighters can take the national certification examination.
In other department news, the fire department announced the promotion of Captain Calen Dunn and Engineer Jacob Younger, and recognized the pinning ceremony for its 2024-01 recruit class.
The department also announced the retirement of Fire Captain Justin Williams, who served the city for 24 years. Williams was recognized for his dedication and service to the Hutchinson community throughout his career.
Fire officials said the certifications and personnel changes reflect the department's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality emergency services to Hutchinson residents.
