Fire Department Rescues Three Pets from Hutchinson House Fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Three pets were rescued from a house fire Friday evening in Hutchinson, with no human injuries reported, according to the Hutchinson Fire Department.

The fire department responded to a structure fire call at approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday on High Drive. The first arriving unit found a single-story home with an active fire, Battalion Chief Chad Allen said in a press release.

Crews conducted a 360-degree survey and discovered the fire was primarily located on the home's exterior back deck. They performed a quick exterior attack to control the flames before entering the residence.

Once inside, firefighters conducted a rapid primary search and located three pets inside the home. One dog required oxygen due to smoke inhalation and heat exposure from the fire.

After controlling the exterior fire, crews moved inside to check for extension and perform overhaul operations. The fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes of the initial call, and crews remained on scene to assist with investigation and cleanup.

No residents were home at the time of the fire, and no civilian or emergency service injuries were reported, Allen said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Hutchinson Fire Department thanked the Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County Sheriff's Office, Reno County EMS, Kansas Gas, Evergy and Hutchinson/Reno County emergency dispatch for their assistance.
