Fire at Midway Motors Prompts Multi-Agency Response in McPherson
36 firefighters from four departments responded to the early morning blaze; foul play not suspected
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 2:54 a.m. Wednesday to 2065 E. Kansas Ave. for a reported structure fire. Crews arrived to find a commercial building with smoke showing and flames coming through the roof. Fire departments from Galva, Inman and Moundridge were called in for additional support, bringing the total response to 36 personnel, five engines, one ladder truck, four attack trucks, one tender and four chief vehicles.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished. The cause is under investigation, though foul play is not suspected. Assisting agencies included the McPherson Police Department, McPherson EMS, McPherson Board of Public Utilities and Kansas Gas Service. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area and not stop on US-56 Highway or Centennial Drive to observe, as bystander traffic creates safety hazards.
