MCPHERSON, Kan. — A 41-year-old Park City woman died Wednesday afternoon after her vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck on Interstate 135 in McPherson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Angel Nichols was traveling southbound around 2:15 p.m. when she struck the semi that was slowly moving forward to yield to traffic ahead, about one mile north of Comanche Road. Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi's driver and passenger suffered no apparent injuries. The crash forced authorities to close southbound I-135 lanes at Mile Marker 53 for several hours, with traffic detoured through local roads including 18th Avenue and Old Highway 81 through Moundridge before drivers could rejoin the interstate at Exit 46. The highway reopened by 9:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
