Fairgrounds Splash Pad closes three Wednesdays for repairs

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Fairgrounds Park Splash Pad will be closed for three Wednesdays in July to allow crews to complete essential mechanical repairs on the popular summer recreation facility.

The splash pad at 2101 N. Severance St. will be closed July 9, 16 and 23, city officials announced. The facility will resume normal operations on the days following each closure.

"We appreciate your patience as we complete these much-needed upgrades," the city stated in announcing the repair schedule.

City officials are encouraging families to visit the Rice Park Splash Pad at 2112 N. Hendricks St. as an alternative during the closure days. The Rice Park facility will maintain its regular hours of 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the affected Wednesdays.

The repairs are described as essential mechanical work needed to keep the splash pad operational through the remainder of the summer season. The city has not specified the nature of the mechanical issues requiring the closures.

Both the Fairgrounds and Rice Park splash pads operate free of charge and are typically open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the summer months.

The Fairgrounds location will close permanently for the season before the Kansas State Fair begins in early September, while Rice Park will remain open through Sept. 26.
