City council approves Visionary Communications franchise

EVANSTON, Wyo. — The city council approved on final reading an ordinance granting a franchise agreement to Visionary Communications LLC. The agreement allows the company to operate and maintain a new telecommunications system within Evanston city limits. Visionary representative Kyle Farley attended the meeting virtually, expressing his eagerness to begin the project and provide expanded connectivity to local residents.

City approves $110,500 land sale in Burnt Hill-area neighborhood

EVANSTON, Wyo. — The city council authorized the sale of approximately two acres of city-owned property on West Cheyenne Drive to JAYGEE BROS., LLC for $110,500. The land, historically part of the city's original 19th-century water supply system, was appraised at $100,000 with a minimum required bid of $102,200 to cover advertising and administrative costs. JAYGEE BROS., LLC, represented by Gary Ellingford, submitted the sole bid for the property.

City shares police ticketing software with Lyman

EVANSTON, Wyo. — The city council approved a change order allowing the Lyman Police Department to utilize Evanston's DigiTicket software. Evanston's existing licensing structure allows neighboring agencies — including the Uinta County Sheriff's Office and Mountain View Police Department — to align on the same platform, with any additional user and license costs handled by the participating agency rather than Evanston taxpayers. Officials said the move saves Lyman money and streamlines the citation review process for local courts.

Council rejects bids for new snow removal loader

EVANSTON, Wyo. — City officials rejected all three submitted bids for a new snow removal loader after discovering the proposed equipment did not meet city specifications. Public works officials reported that the snowplow and wing attachments were incorrect on all submissions, which would significantly alter the proposed prices and render the bids invalid. The city will revise and restart the bidding process to ensure the correct equipment is procured.

Mild winter brings savings on city snow removal

EVANSTON, Wyo. — A mild winter has resulted in lighter financial obligations for the city, particularly regarding snow removal costs. During the routine approval of the city's bills, a significant decrease in seasonal expenditures was noted. Officials jokingly warned that while snow removal costs are currently down, the city may eventually have to pay to import water later in the year due to the lack of winter precipitation.

Volunteers sought for special airport planning committee

EVANSTON, Wyo. — In preparation for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Utah, plans were announced to form a special committee focused on local airport infrastructure and regional impacts. Interested city council members were asked to volunteer for the committee to help strategize potential economic and logistical opportunities for Evanston. Official appointments for the committee are expected to be finalized in the coming days.

Students honored in county America 250-themed coloring contest

EVANSTON, Wyo. — The city council recognized local K–12 students who won the county's America 250-themed community coloring contest. The parks and recreation department received approximately 150 entries, ultimately selecting four winners from each participating school. The young artists in attendance were praised, and local schools were thanked for their participation in the historic community celebration.

Purple Sage Golf Course increases fees for 2026

EVANSTON, Wyo. — Green fees at the Purple Sage Municipal Golf Course will see a slight increase across the board for the 2026 season following city council approval. Under the new fee structure, nonresidents — defined as anyone living outside Uinta County — will pay a higher premium than local golfers. Officials noted the changes came after a productive meeting with the golf advisory board that prioritized protecting local taxpayers while generating necessary facility revenue.
