ECS Eagles Soar Past Lebo in Sub-State Semifinal
Balanced attack and defensive intensity propel Eagles to 44-34 victory
The Elyria Christian School Eagles punched their ticket to the sub-state championship game Monday night, pulling away from Lebo in the fourth quarter for a 44-34 road victory in the Class 1A Division I postseason semifinal.
Joy Pyle led all scorers with 15 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field, adding seven rebounds and a block. Grace Prescott was equally impressive with 13 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, while dishing out a game-high eight assists and grabbing six boards. Prescott also played all 32 minutes and contributed three steals.
Kami Noggle turned in what head coach Greg Fields called her best game of the year, scoring six points on a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor — including a three-pointer — while providing key shot-making in crucial moments. Haven Bower added seven points and three steals, attacking the basket with confidence throughout the night. Amelia Moody chipped in three points and was a force on the glass with six rebounds.
Fields credited the team's recent tough games against Little River and Halstead for sharpening their defensive edge. The Eagles switched to a man-to-man defense that appeared to disrupt Lebo's offensive rhythm, and they sustained the intensity without getting into foul trouble.
ECS will travel to Hartford on Saturday to face Marais Des Cygnes Valley for the sub-state championship.
