Early morning blaze damages Hutchinson structure

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Firefighters battled a structure fire for several hours early Monday morning, Dec. 15, in Hutchinson, bringing the blaze under control just before sunrise.
The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a call at 3:30 a.m. reporting a possible structure fire at 56th Street and Old K-61. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames coming from a structure that appeared to have been burning for some time, according to a press release from Jeremy Unruh, division chief of operations.
Firefighters launched a defensive attack on the fire while simultaneously conducting rural water operations. The fire was declared controlled at approximately 4:15 a.m.
Crews remained on scene for multiple hours after gaining control, working to extinguish hot spots. 56th Street will be closed until approximately noon Monday, with firefighters continuing work throughout the morning.
Fire investigation is scheduled to begin at daybreak. No firefighter injuries were reported.
