Eagles Fall to Halstead, But Find Plenty of Positives Heading Into Sub-State

The ECS Eagles dropped a 44-26 decision to Halstead on Friday night, but head coach Greg Fields came away encouraged by what he saw from his team heading into the postseason.

"It was a great opportunity to go up against one of the top teams in the state tonight before heading into post-season," Fields said. "There were a lot of positives that we took away from this game."

The Eagles struggled offensively, shooting just 25.7% from the field, but Fields was pleased with how his team competed on the defensive end. Outside of a pair of Halstead runs in the first and third quarters, ECS made the Trojans work for every basket.

"I thought that our girls played with a toughness that can keep us in games with anyone," Fields said.

The Eagles also had to deal with some adversity when leading scorer Joy Pyle went down with a slight injury early in the second quarter. Others stepped up to fill the void.

Freshman Izzy Stucky, who has seen limited varsity time this season, answered the call and played aggressive basketball for nearly three quarters. Grace Prescott led the Eagles with 9 points and added 5 steals, showing her presence on both ends of the floor. Haven Bower was a force on the glass with 9 rebounds and drew contact consistently, going 5-of-8 from the free throw line. Amelia Moody also turned in a strong performance, playing tough defense and hauling in some difficult rebounds while connecting on 2-of-3 from three-point range for 6 points.

"I was happy with how we battled through some adversity," Fields said.

ECS now turns its attention to the postseason, hosting Chetopa on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the first round of sub-state.
