Driver Transported After Vehicle Crashes Into Canal on West Adams Avenue

ARKANSAS CITY — Arkansas City police and fire officials responded to a single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:23 a.m. Feb. 1 in the 400 block of West Adams Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a red 2015 Ford Focus resting sideways in the canal, according to the Arkansas City Police Department. Officers assisted the driver, who was still inside the vehicle at the time of their arrival.

The driver, Yahil Felix, 28, of Arkansas City, was transported to the emergency room for treatment.

A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on West Adams Avenue when it failed to navigate the turn, drove through a newly installed fence along the Hike and Bike Trail, and entered the canal.

Photographs shared by the police department showed the severely damaged vehicle in the canal, with significant front-end damage visible.

The incident remains under investigation. The case will be forwarded to the Cowley County Attorney's Office for review of potential charges, according to the department.

No additional information about the extent of Felix's injuries or potential factors contributing to the crash was immediately available.
