County announces start of $3.76 million hot-mix asphalt project

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - The Ford County Commission announced that APAC began a $3.76 million hot-mix asphalt project earlier in April. According to County Engineer Jon Halbgewachs, roads will remain open during construction, but traffic will be temporarily halted and guided by flaggers and pilot cars to ensure worker and driver safety.


County proposes $55,000 chip seal project for U.S. Highway 50 access roads

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - Ford County is seeking a $55,000 chip seal project for access roads and the connection to 107 Road as part of the U.S. Highway 50 expansion west of Dodge City. County Engineer Jon Halbgewachs submitted the estimated cost to Kansas Department of Transportation District 6 Engineer Gary Bennett, who confirmed the state agency's headquarters is reviewing the funding request.


Bridge deck repairs slated for June, partial lane closures expected

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - Repairs to the FAS Bridge 220 deck will begin in June under a contract awarded to PCIRoads. Jon Halbgewachs, Ford County engineer, said that while construction is underway, the bridge will be restricted to a single lane accommodating two-way traffic, and residents should plan for minor travel delays.


County orders Boot Hill Solar developer to replace incorrect road materials

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - Alluvial Power, the developer of the Boot Hill Solar project, has been instructed to replace backfill material at an entrance off Lariat Way. Ford County Engineer Jon Halbgewachs said the installed asphalt did not meet plan specifications. Additionally, the county's engineering firm, Kirkham Michael, submitted a road damage summary to the developer and is awaiting a formal response.


Commission approves engineering agreement for Boot Hill Battery Energy Storage System

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - The Ford County Commission unanimously approved an engineering agreement earlier this month between the county and Kirkham Michael for the Boot Hill Battery Energy Storage System. The move marks the next step in evaluating and accommodating the large-scale energy storage project's infrastructure needs across rural county roads.


Commissioners approve increased booking fees at county detention center

FORD COUNTY, Kan. - The Ford County Commission unanimously passed Resolution No. 2026-15, increasing the booking and processing fees at the Ford County Detention Center. Sheriff Bill Carr and Undersheriff Dale Coleman presented the measure, which was previously debated in a work session, to help offset operational and administrative costs at the facility.
