David J. Nutt Legacy Grants Cycle Now Open
Application Period Runs Through January 15 with No Maximum Request Amount
The McPherson County Community Foundation has announced that the David J. Nutt Legacy grant cycle is now open through January 15, 2026, offering Lindsborg organizations the opportunity to apply for transformative funding with no maximum request limit.
All organizations operating within the Lindsborg community are eligible to submit applications for capital campaigns, programs or projects requiring significant financial support. The Legacy grant cycle, which opens only once each fiscal year, allows organizations to submit detailed proposals that could substantially benefit both their operations and the broader Lindsborg community.
The final total awarded will be determined by the David J. Nutt Fund committee based on the number and size of applications received. During the most recent cycle, the fund distributed $232,375 to three organizations, including Soderstrom Elementary, which utilized its funding to replace an aging gym floor.
As part of the annual Legacy grant process, the committee seeks public input on all submitted applications through a community survey. The survey, which will be released in late January, outlines the scope of each project and the amount requested. While final approval rests with the committee, community feedback is taken into consideration when determining grant awards.
The David J. Nutt Fund was established in 2017 with a $7.5 million gift from the estate of David J. Nutt, a former Lindsborg resident who credited the community with shaping his life. His endowment created a permanent resource to support organizations working to improve the lives of Lindsborg residents.
The fund's impact has grown significantly since its inception. The first round of grants was awarded in 2018, with $25,000 distributed among 12 organizations. In 2019, the fund awarded $205,500 in grants. By 2024, annual giving had reached $414,168, pushing the fund's total giving past the $2 million milestone.
The David J. Nutt Fund continues to demonstrate the lasting power of endowments and generosity. Thanks to David Nutt's gift, Lindsborg has been forever changed for the better, with organizations across the community benefiting from his vision and philanthropy.
