Commission approves 45-year communications tower lease in Arkansas City
COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Cowley County Commission unanimously approved an option and lease agreement with a tower company to construct a communications facility on county property located in Arkansas City. The agreement, which could span up to 45 years through automatic renewals, allows for a tower up to 450 feet tall and will generate $900 per month in rental revenue during its first five years, with a 2 percent increase every five years. After reviewing standard legal advisements from Cowley County Counselor Mark Krusor regarding environmental land condition warranties and the county's subordinate claim position to the lessee's lenders, the commission determined the unused property's long-term revenue potential outweighed the risks.
Engineering firm selected for project pending federal grant
COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Cowley County Commission approved the selection of Kirkham Michael to provide preliminary engineering services for the Dexter Y Improvement Project, contingent on the county receiving a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All implementation grant. Following feedback from the Federal Highway Administration on a previous application, Cowley County reapplied with eight new requested details. Kirkham Michael was the sole firm to submit a statement of qualifications after the county issued requests to eight different firms in an effort to demonstrate project readiness to federal reviewers.
County approves agreement for Rose Valley Cemetery improvements
COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Cowley County Commission unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with Liberty Township for collaborative improvements to the Rose Valley Cemetery. The agreement follows a recent 3-0 vote by the Liberty Township board in favor of the partnership, allowing Cowley County to formally offer administrative and operational assistance for the planned site upgrades.
