Cowley College Paramedic Program Seeks Community Volunteers for Student Training

ARKANSAS CITY — Cowley College's Paramedic Program is seeking community volunteers to serve as standardized patients for student training exercises at the college's simulation lab.

Standardized patients assist students by portraying patients during simulated clinical scenarios, according to the program. No medical background is required, and volunteers will receive clear instructions for each scenario and support from faculty throughout the experience.

"Participation helps ensure paramedic students receive realistic, hands-on training and are well-prepared to serve our community upon graduation," the program said in its volunteer recruitment announcement.

The program is open to adult community members, with time commitments varying by scenario. Specific dates, times and expectations will be provided in advance to volunteers.

Individuals interested in volunteering or seeking additional information are encouraged to comment on the Cowley College EMS Education Facebook page or send a private message. Program staff will follow up with further details.

"Thank you for supporting our Paramedic Program!" the announcement concluded.

The use of standardized patients is a common practice in medical education, allowing students to practice clinical skills and patient interaction in a controlled environment before working with actual patients in the field.
