County Partners with Energy Company to Capture Landfill Gas

RENO COUNTY — The Reno County Commission unanimously approved a partnership with Meadowlark Renewables, LLC to capture methane gas currently being burned off at the county landfill and convert it into sellable pipeline-quality fuel. The company will build and operate a processing plant on three acres adjacent to the landfill at its own expense, guaranteeing the county at least $37,500 in monthly royalty payments while providing financial security for eventual site cleanup. County officials said the project transforms a wasted resource into steady revenue, with Meadowlark planning to begin the 18-month design and construction process immediately.
