County implements manual security screenings at courthouse

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — The Reno County Courthouse has implemented manual security screenings after its x-ray machine broke down, officials announced Tuesday.

The Reno County Sheriff's Office said the x-ray machine used for security screening has been out of service since July 16. Security staff are now manually and visually inspecting all bags, boxes, purses and backpacks entering the courthouse.

Officials said the enhanced screening procedures are necessary to maintain building security but acknowledged the inconvenience to visitors. The sheriff's office advised people to bring only essential items when conducting business at the courthouse to expedite the security process.

The courthouse is located at 206 W. 1st Ave. in Hutchinson. Officials said normal x-ray screening will resume once the machine is repaired, though no timeline was provided for when that might occur.

The manual screening affects all visitors entering the Reno County Court House for legal proceedings, filing documents and other courthouse business.
