County Faces Expensive Bridge Repair Options in Marquette Township
Commissioners consider solutions ranging from $20,000 basic fix to $95,000 full replacement for storm-damaged structure.

MARQUETTE — McPherson County commissioners are weighing costly repair options for a storm-damaged bridge in Marquette Township that has prompted numerous citizen complaints and been deemed structurally unsound. Public Works Director David Bohnenblust told commissioners at their August 25 meeting that the county's second-oldest bridge was damaged during recent heavy rains, with repair options ranging from a basic $20,000 to $30,000 fix that would maintain a low weight rating to a full concrete box replacement costing up to $95,000. The commission will present these alternatives to township officials, who must decide whether to proceed with a mid-range rail car replacement option priced at $40,000 to $50,000 or invest in the more expensive but permanent solution.
