Community Rallies to Support Mother After Teen's Fatal Shooting

MCPHERSON, Kan. — A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $14,000 for the family of 19-year-old Joshua Soden, who was shot and killed early Saturday morning following an altercation that began at a house party southwest of Inman. The fundraiser, organized by Tara Killingsworth on behalf of Soden's mother, Deja House, has received donations from 192 supporters toward an $18,000 goal to cover funeral costs, a memorial and possibly help with further investigation. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and McPherson County Sheriff's Office are investigating the homicide, which occurred around 2 a.m. when a disagreement among party attendees who had been drinking alcohol escalated after two groups left in separate trucks and later met on a rural road near 4th Avenue and Arapaho Road, about two miles from the party. An 18-year-old male called 911 to report the shooting and drove to the Inman Police Department, where he was questioned by police but not arrested.
