Community raises $1,100 for abandoned puppies found at Walmart
Donations continue pouring in to support the McPherson Animal Shelter
MCPHERSON, Kan. — A community fundraising effort has raised $1,100 to care for six 1-week-old puppies that were abandoned in a local Walmart parking lot.
The puppies were discovered around 4:30 p.m. Thursday hidden inside a pink bag behind the tire of a parked vehicle. McPherson police and animal control officers safely recovered the dogs, which are expected to survive thanks to around-the-clock bottle feeding by shelter staff, law enforcement and volunteers.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by citizen journal was launched to help cover the costs of their intensive care quickly exceeded its goals as donations poured in. While the effort has already collected $1,100, organizers said they are still accepting contributions from the public.
All funds raised will prioritize the immediate medical and daily needs of the six puppies. Any remaining money will be given to the McPherson Animal Shelter to broadly support its operations and help other local animals in need.
