MCPHERSON, KS — Two summer camps at McPherson College received crucial support from designated funds through the McPherson County Community Foundation last week, enabling 105 area youth to participate in theatre and debate programs. The Keri Lindholm Endowment for the Arts sponsored McPherson Community Theatre's Summer Stage Camp, where 45 campers ages 9-15 spent a week preparing and performing a Broadway-style production of "The Lion King" at Brown Auditorium. The endowment also provided scholarships for 18 participants, who gained hands-on experience in all aspects of theatrical production, from auditions and memorizing lines to creating sets and costumes.

The Edwin R. Stucky Debate Enhancement Fund supported the McPherson County Debate Camp, which has grown into a regional program attracting 60 students and seven coaches from seven western Kansas schools, including participants from McPherson, Halstead, Nickerson, Sterling, Sedgwick, Buhler, and Great Bend. The intensive camp served as both preparation for the upcoming debate season and an entry point for new debaters, with sessions covering fundamental and advanced concepts focused on this year's topic, "The Exploration and Development of the Arctic." The foundation funding provided essential resources including T-shirts and lunches for all participants, helping make both educational programs accessible to students throughout the region.
