Community Efforts Support Winfield Food Pantry During Holiday Season
WINFIELD, Kan. — The Winfield Community Food Pantry is receiving support from multiple community partners this holiday season as local organizations work to address food insecurity in Cowley County.
Winfield Middle School students recently collected more than 550 canned goods through a food drive organized by the school's Builders Club and Student Council, contributing to the pantry's efforts to serve families in need.
Albright Insurance launched a partnership with the food pantry that runs through Dec. 31, converting customer interactions into donations. Each social media tag or mention of Albright Insurance or Albright Real Estate generates a one-can donation, while insurance quotes contribute $1 per household and new home or auto policies written result in $10 donations.
"Our goal: A strong, community-wide impact that helps support Winfield families during a high-need time of year," the company stated.
The coordinated efforts come as food insecurity remains a significant challenge in the region. The Legacy Regional Community Foundation highlighted the issue during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, observed Nov. 16-22.
"No one should have to worry about whether they will have food on their plate or a roof over their head," the foundation stated. "But the reality is that hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect far too many people."
The foundation emphasized the need for both immediate assistance and systemic changes to address root causes of food insecurity and homelessness in Cowley County. More information about the foundation's efforts is available at https://hhweek.org/.
National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual program bringing communities together nationwide to raise awareness about poverty-related issues.
