Become a subscriberCANTON, Kan. — Canton residents are asked to withhold food from outdoor cats Tuesday, Aug. 18, when the Street Cats Club is scheduled to trap, spay or neuter and release about 50 of the city's strays. The city made the request in an Aug. 13 Facebook post, describing the trapping as part of its work on Canton's stray cat population.
Victoria Partridge, executive director of Street Cats Club, said in the post: “Please don’t feed (cats) the morning of the 18th and remove available food for the day. Water is encouraged. We will use wet food as bait and want the cats to be food motivated.”
The city also asked owners to keep indoor-outdoor cats inside the evening and night of Aug. 18, and to put a collar on any cat that must be outside so trappers can tell an owned cat from a stray.
