MCPHERSON, Kan. — A distinctive new attraction is taking shape at Challenger Park as crews advance construction on a 9,000-square-foot pollinator garden designed in the shape of a butterfly. Approved by the City Commission last September, the project has moved from winter infrastructure work—including irrigation and electrical installation—to the pouring of perimeter sidewalks by the Public Works Department. City staff are leading the construction and future maintenance of the site, which will feature copper ponds, ADA-accessible pathways and educational signage. Officials plan to begin planting this spring and are accepting community donations to help establish the space as both a pollinator habitat and an educational destination.
