Bullpups Sweep Valley Center in Doubleheader

ANDOVER, Kan. — McPherson swept a doubleheader from Valley Center on Monday, winning 10-7 and 10-8 after Game 1 was suspended due to a loose mound turf issue at Valley Center and resumed in Andover.

In Game 1, Brady Rinker earned his first career varsity win in relief of Cru Buchman, going four innings and striking out three after the Bullpups resumed play trailing 5-2 in the top of the fourth. McPherson immediately scored two runs to close the gap and piled on from there, with Cole Huggard, Nolan Pearcy and Carter Bengtson each recording doubles in a nine-hit attack.

In Game 2, Cade Strathman got the start and Carter Bengtson shut the door in relief as McPherson overcame five errors with 10 runs on nine hits. Valley Center rallied for five in the seventh to make it interesting before Adrian Unruh came on to close it out. The Bullpups (2-0) head to Augusta on Thursday.
