Wenderott, Muehler set meet records as McPherson boys finish second overall.

PRATT, Kan. — The McPherson High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed at the Pratt Invitational on Friday against a 12-team field that included programs from all classifications, with the boys finishing second behind Wichita Bishop Carroll and the girls placing fifth behind Hays, Bishop Carroll, Scott City and Garden Plain.

Senior Caden Wenderott set a new Pratt Invitational meet record in the discus with a throw of 160 feet, 4 inches to claim first place, and also took second in shot put. Senior Caleb Muehler broke the meet record in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:29.83 to win that event, while the boys 4x800 relay team of Kayden Friesen, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen and Muehler also took first. Brody Hoffman added a second in the 200 and third in the 100, Kinnick Anderson placed second in the triple jump, and the boys 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished third. Other top-six boys finishers included Kayden Friesen (third, 800 and 3,200), Tripp Pelzel (fourth, 800), Jayren Stutzman (fourth, 100) and Mason Miller (fifth, javelin).

On the girls side, Ellie Herrera won the high jump, Karsen Burris took first in the javelin, and Andi Buschbom placed second in the long jump. Brynn Littlejohn finished fourth in shot put, Cayla Weimer took sixth in triple jump, Piper Solofra placed sixth in long jump, and Elley Paulsen was sixth in the 100 hurdles. The girls 4x100 relay of Amara Dossett, Piper Solofra, Ella Wyssman and Andi Buschbom placed fifth, as did the 4x400 relay of Ella Wyssman, Maryn Sandbo, Piper Solofra and Andi Buschbom.
