Bullpups Shine at Emporia State High School Relays
Wenderott sweeps throws, Burris wins javelin as McPherson opens track season.
EMPORIA, Kan. — The McPherson boys and girls track and field teams opened the season Saturday at the Emporia State High School Relays at Welch Stadium, with the boys finishing fifth out of 11 teams and the girls placing fourth out of 12.
Senior Caden Wenderott led the Bullpups with first-place finishes in both the discus and shot put, while Karsen Burris claimed the javelin title on the girls' side. Cayla Weimer added a second-place finish in the triple jump, the girls' 4x100-meter relay team of Amara Dossett, Piper Solofra, Ella Wyssman and Andi Buschbom took second, and Caleb Muehler placed second in the 3,200 meters for the boys.
Kinnick Anderson (second, triple jump), Kayden Friesen (second, 800 meters) and Buschbom (fourth, long jump) also recorded top finishes for McPherson against a field that included schools from across Kansas and the Des Moines, Iowa, area.
