Bullpups Season Ends with First-Round Playoff Loss to Augusta
Late fourth-quarter rally falls short as McPherson falls 33-20 in 4A West playoffs
McPHERSON — A furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt wasn't enough to overcome a slow start as the McPherson Bullpups fell to Augusta 33-20 in the first round of the Class 4A West playoffs Friday night, ending their season at 5-4.
The Bullpups, who entered the game with a 5-3 record, struggled early against the Orioles (3-5), falling behind 26-0 at halftime. Augusta extended their lead to 33-0 by the end of the third quarter before McPherson finally found their offensive rhythm.
The Bullpups showed heart in the final frame, scoring 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to make the final score respectable. However, the deficit proved too much to overcome as Augusta held on for the first-round upset victory.
The loss ends McPherson's season with a 5-4 overall record.
