Bullpups Girls Varsity Tennis Tops Maize Invitational
Avery Unruh earns her 100th career win to highlight McPherson's team victory.
MAIZE, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity girls tennis team claimed first place at a five-team invitational Monday, finishing with 24 points to edge Maize and Maize South, who each scored 12. Mayson Wiens, McKenna Paul and the doubles team of Gwen Prieb and Piper VanCampen each went 3-0 to win their respective divisions, while the No. 1 doubles team of Avery Unruh and Quinn Liebl also went 3-0 — with Unruh earning her 100th career win in the opening match. "You don't reach 100 wins by accident," coach said. "To even have an opportunity to get there, you pretty much have to compete at the varsity level for four years and average around 25 wins a season. That's no small task, and it's a great accomplishment for Avery."
