Bullpups Girls Tennis Sweeps Regional, All Six Advance to State
McPherson dominates 4A Regional with two championships and six State qualifiers.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity girls tennis team put together one of its most complete regional performances of the season Saturday, winning the 4A Regional title with 23 points — more than double the 10 scored by runner-up Chapman — as all six Bullpups competitors punched their tickets to Topeka. Mayson Wiens went 4-0 to claim the Regional singles championship, while the doubles team of Avery Unruh and Quinn Liebl also went 4-0 to take the doubles title, with teammates Dragon Rodriguez and Lleyton Kuhn finishing second after falling to their own teammates in the championship match, 7-5, 6-3. McKenna Paul rounded out the State qualifiers with a fifth-place singles finish, her only loss coming to the eventual Regional singles runner-up from Goodland. 'The best part of the day is that all six of our girls qualified for State,' said coach Tyler Brown. 'To win a Regional singles championship, finish first and second in doubles, qualify our second singles entry, and know that every girl we put on the court today will get the opportunity to represent McPherson at State is pretty special. We're excited to have all six girls heading to Topeka together. They've earned this opportunity, and now it's time to see what we can do at State.'
