Bullpups Girls Tennis Dominates Doug Gayer Classic
McPherson Red totals 90 points to claim the Doug Gayer Classic team title.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity girls tennis team claimed the team title at the Doug Gayer Classic on Saturday, with McPherson Red finishing first in the team standings with 90 points, well ahead of runner-up Goddard Eisenhower (72) and Chapman (57). The doubles pairing of Quinn Liebl and Avery Unruh led the way, going 4-0 and winning 32 of the 33 games they played en route to a first-place finish, while Dragon Rodriguez and Lleyton Kuhn took second after the two McPherson tandems met in an all-Bullpup championship match. In singles, Mayson Wiens finished third at 3-1 and McKenna Paul took fifth at 3-1, her only loss a tight 8-7(5) decision against a two-time state qualifier from Chapman. "Doug would be proud," head coach said. "The girls showed again today why they are going to be a tough out for anyone in 4A."
