Bullpups Girls Swim Team Opens 2026 Season with Strong Second-Place Finish
Wiens earns state consideration in two events as McPherson tallies 247 points at Topeka Invite
TOPEKA — The McPherson Bullpups girls swim team made an impressive opening statement at the 2026 Girls TWHS Invite at Hummer Sports Complex on Thursday, March 26, finishing second overall with 247 points in a 15-team field. Lansing High School claimed the team title with 547 points, but the Bullpups far outpaced the rest of the competition, edging third-place De Soto by 17 points.
Leading the way for McPherson was Adyson Wiens, who earned state consideration in two events. Wiens took third in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:08.71 and added a third-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, clocking in at 1:18.82 — one of the standout individual performances of the day for the Bullpups.
Ella Schrag was another bright spot, placing fourth in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:49.37 and finishing 11th in the 100 Freestyle at 1:06.91. Schrag also anchored McPherson's "A" 200 Freestyle Relay team alongside Wiens, Kaylee Frank, and Josie Charvat, which placed fifth with a time of 2:00.40.
In the relays, McPherson had a strong showing across the board. The 200 Medley Relay team of Roxy Riedel, Kaylee Frank, Adyson Wiens, and Ella Schrag finished fourth with a time of 2:16.57, while the 400 Freestyle Relay squad of Brinnley Robinson, Roxy Riedel, Kennedy Hecker, and Josie Charvat came in fifth at 4:58.82. The "B" 400 Freestyle Relay team of Mckenzie Dammann, Zoe Busenitz, Jersey Elseth, and Ashleigh Coyle added a seventh-place finish at 5:13.64.
Individually, Brinnley Robinson turned in solid performances in the 200 Freestyle (ninth, 2:37.33) and 500 Freestyle (eighth, 7:12.57), while Roxy Riedel placed eighth in the 100 Backstroke at 1:22.15 and 10th in the 200 IM at 3:12.99. Zoe Busenitz added a 12th-place finish in the 200 Freestyle and sixth in the 100 Butterfly.

Head coach Brunk noted that despite losing several fast seniors from last year's squad, the team has rebuilt impressively, with nearly half the roster made up of freshmen who proved to be strong point contributors at this first meet of the season. The Bullpups will return to competition at Heights on April 3.
