Bullpups Claim McPherson Invite Title, Go 5-0
McPherson's varsity girls volleyball team went undefeated to win its home invitational.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity girls volleyball team went 5-0 Saturday to claim the McPherson Invitational championship, defeating Bishop Carroll 16-25, 25-19, 25-21 in the title match to complete a dominant day that included wins over Wichita Heights (25-12, 25-14), Salina South (25-17, 15-25, 25-14), Garden City (25-21, 25-19) and Garden Plain (25-21, 25-19). Piper Solofra led the Bullpups with 40 kills and nine blocks, Rylie Whitfield dished out 116 assists, and Elles Pavlovich anchored the back row with 53 digs as McPherson knocked off Garden City — ranked fourth in Class 6A West — in straight sets, avenging a preseason loss to the Buffaloes. "Bishop Carroll was No. 2 in the 5A west and it took us three sets to come out as McPherson Invite Champions," said Coach Doile. "As a coaching staff, we are very proud of our girls and their mental approach to this tournament."
