MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity boys soccer team rallied twice to defeat Wichita Classical 5-2 Tuesday night at Bullpup Stadium, with Yahir Valadez scoring twice in the second half and Jackson Martin adding a goal and two assists on the night. Classical took the lead on a counterattack before Leonardo Gaspar Mendez — set up by a Martin ball across the goal — leveled it late in the first half, and Miguel Alonzo, assisted by Valadez, gave McPherson a 2-1 edge before the break; Classical tied it again just one minute into the second half on a free kick, only for Valadez to answer immediately, bringing down a Dmitry Peters service on his chest, splitting two defenders and volleying home to restore the lead for good. Martin capped the scoring on a Peters shot that rattled off the crossbar and dropped to his feet, while goalkeeper Hunter Schroeder finished with three saves on 10 shots faced; in the JV contest, McPherson also won 4-1, with Aiden Pattison netting three goals, Jameson Bowers adding one and Pedro Francisco collecting two assists.
