Bullpups' 4x800 Relay Claims Class 4A State Title

WICHITA, Kan. — The McPherson Bullpups varsity boys track and field team brought home a Class 4A state championship in the 4x800-meter relay at Cessna Stadium on May 29-30, with Kayden Friesen, Daniel Bowen, Tripp Pelzel and Caleb Muehler clocking a school-record 7:56.20. Muehler also earned individual medals in three events, finishing second in the 3,200 meters, third in the 1,600 meters and fifth in the 800 meters, helping the Bullpups climb to a seventh-place finish in the team standings — up from 14th in 2024 and 11th in 2025. Field medalists Caden Wenderott (fifth, discus) and Andi Buschbom (fifth, long jump) and Karsen Burris (sixth, javelin) rounded out McPherson's medal haul across 24 total state qualifiers.

Both 4x400-meter relay teams also scored, each placing seventh. The boys relay featured Brody Hoffman, Pelzel, Bowen and Friesen, while the girls relay ran Ella Wyssmann, Kamryn Prescott, Buschbom and Piper Solofra. Pelzel added a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters.
