Bullpup Girls Golf Season Preview: All-State Duo Returns for Another Title Run
Kuhn, Buschbom lead experienced squad after historic third-place state finish

The McPherson girls golf program continues its rapid ascent, returning two all-state players from last year's historic third-place finish at the state tournament. Seniors Brodie Kuhn and Andi Buschbom give the Bullpups what Coach Fawl believes is "the best 1-2 combo in class 4A."
"Anytime you return two all-state caliber players you have to be excited as a coach," said Coach Fawl. "They have played varsity since their freshman year. Their leadership will be key to our season's success."
Kuhn, a first-team all-state selection, finished fifth at state last year while posting the second-best scoring average in 4A at 77 strokes per round. Buschbom earned second-team all-state honors with a 12th-place state finish and the sixth-best scoring average in 4A at 81.
The program's remarkable growth in just three years culminated with a tie for first at regionals before the state podium finish. Senior Reese Elliott also contributed with a 21st-place finish at state, narrowly missing honorable mention recognition.
Junior Pera Bauer returns as the team's third option after serving as the No. 4 player last season, showing significant progress down the stretch. The Bullpups also welcome promising freshman Lleyton Kuhn, who competed in multiple events over the summer and "has a bright future," according to Fawl. Junior Addie French rounds out the returning varsity contributors.
The team's summer preparation included strong attendance at team camp, with four players competing in multiple tournaments. "I have seen quite a few of them out on the course practicing and getting lessons this summer," Fawl noted.
McPherson opens the season at the 4A State Preview at Carey Park Golf Course in Hutchinson, the same venue that will host the state championship on October 20-21. Other key dates include the team's home meet on September 18, the Buhler Invitational on September 26, and the Hutchinson Invitational on October 2.
Coach Fawl is emphasizing mental approach this season, focusing on "positive self-talk, positive body language, and sticking to our process." The team's goals remain ambitious but achievable: compete for the league title, have a chance to win regionals, and position themselves for a state championship run on the final day.
"We want to compete and grow," Fawl explained. "Compete in everything you do. Learn from successes and failures and get better." With experienced leadership and a culture of improvement established over the program's first three years, the Bullpups appear poised for another memorable season.
