Bullpup Girls Cruise Past Grizzlies to Claim 7th Place at Mid America Classic

The McPherson Bullpups closed out the 31st Annual Mid America Classic on a high note Saturday morning, dominating Wichita Northwest 53-24 in the 7th place game behind a suffocating defensive effort and balanced scoring attack. Piper Alvord led the way with 14 points on a blistering 5-of-6 shooting, including three triples, while Brooke Doile added 12 points and nine rebounds to cap an impressive tournament performance.

McPherson's defense was the story, holding the Grizzlies to just 16.7 percent shooting from the field and an abysmal 2-of-26 from beyond the arc. After a tight first quarter that saw Wichita Northwest clinging to an early two-point lead, the Bullpups erupted for a 20-point third quarter to blow the game open and cruised to their largest lead of 29 points by the final buzzer. Rylie Whitfield contributed nine points and six rebounds, while Audra Sandbo provided a spark off the bench with five points. Elle Paulsen added seven rebounds in a reserve role as McPherson dominated the glass 45-39.

The victory gives the Bullpups momentum heading into the second half of the season after dropping their first two tournament games to Andover Central and Shawnee Mission East earlier in the week.
