Buhler Tops McPherson Girls in Sub-State Play
Crusaders pull away for 53-50 victory at the Roundhouse.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The Buhler Crusaders held off a McPherson Bullpups rally to claim a 53-50 girls sub-state victory Tuesday night at the Roundhouse, ending the Bullpups' season. Buhler built an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter before McPherson fought back, but the Crusaders' Kinley Combes led all scorers with 15 points while Torie Tustian added 11.
Booke Doile and Rylie Whitfield each scored 13 points to lead McPherson, which shot just 23.8% from the field in the first half before warming up to 54.2% after the break. The Bullpups outscored Buhler 33-26 in the second half but could not overcome the early deficit in a game that saw six lead changes and five ties.
