Boys Soccer 2016s Sweep Doubleheader, Miss Title by Point
MCFC wins twice Sunday to close on a four-game winning streak.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Football Club 2016 boys side closed its 7-vs.-7 season Sunday with a doubleheader sweep, defeating Blackhawks FC 5-1 and VC Fusion Blasi 2-1 to finish with four consecutive wins. In the opener, Heiman recorded his second hat trick of the season and Griggs added two goals in a dominant reversal of a 5-4 loss to Blackhawks FC earlier in the year, with a perfectly placed goal kick from Pflughoeft setting up one of the match's standout moments.
The finale was decided when Heiman controlled a ball out of the backfield, beat the defense and finished a one-on-one chance against the goalkeeper, while a first goal of the season from Dacus — set up by a Griggs through ball — had opened the scoring. MCFC finished one point shy of the division title despite handing the eventual champions their only loss of the season, and the club will transition to 9-vs.-9 play this fall under new USYS age guidelines.
