Bohme Punches Double Ticket to State as Bullpups Surge at Campus Invitational
McPherson finishes fourth overall; medley relay posts season-best time in runner-up finish
The McPherson Bullpups continued their tradition of strong performances at Campus High School Thursday night, securing a fourth-place finish with 268 points while sophomore Cooper Bohme delivered the highlight of the evening with two state-qualifying swims on Kansas Day.
McPherson wasted no time making its presence felt as the 200 Medley Relay team of Ben Bocox, Manny Morales, Beckett Schuckman, and Bohme charged to a season-best 1:56.76 for second place overall. Bohme then took center stage, clocking a 1:58.54 in the 200 Freestyle for his first state qualification before delivering a massive time cut of 5:28.01 in the 500 Freestyle to punch his second ticket to state.
Bocox turned in perhaps the night's most dominant individual performance with a runner-up finish in the 100 Backstroke, while personal records fell throughout the lineup—Kurt Mendez dropped a 2:42.28 in the 200 Individual Medley for sixth and Schuckman touched in 25.49 in the 50 Freestyle for seventh before adding a fourth-place finish in the 100 Butterfly.
The 400 Freestyle Relay quartet of Schuckman, Mendez, Bocox, and Bohme continued their pursuit of what would be the program's first state relay qualification, improving their consideration time with a 3:52.02 for fourth place—coming within two seconds of the qualifying standard.
