Beyond Barriers, a Hutchinson disability-services nonprofit, is recruiting Reno County businesses to mentor or sponsor its 25th annual Disability Mentoring Day on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when nearly 100 high school students with disabilities will shadow local workers.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will place students from all Reno County schools at around 30 mentor job sites, according to a Beyond Barriers news release.

“We’ve employed at least three kids that came for Disability Mentoring Day. One of them worked here for 15 years,” said Brook Neufeld, hospitality manager at Carlos O'Kelly's.

Businesses can also host job shadows or help with logistics such as transportation, breakfast and the closing reception, the release states.

Interested businesses and organizations can contact Cindy Daniels at 620-663-3989 or cdaniels@beyondbarriersks.com.
