Arkansas City Receives $658,728 Grant for Wilson Park Playground Equipment
ARKANSAS CITY — The city will receive $658,728 to add new playground equipment at Wilson Park following an announcement by Lt. Gov. and Secretary of Commerce David Toland.
The funding comes from more than $4.1 million in Community Development Block Grant projects across 12 communities statewide, with Arkansas City named as one of the award recipients.
The City Commission will vote on final approval of the grant agreement at Tuesday night's meeting, according to a city announcement.
"This investment supports quality of life in our community and helps ensure Wilson Park continues to be a place where families can gather, play, and make memories," the city said.
Wilson Park, located in Arkansas City, features historic attractions including the Santa Fe Locomotive Engine No. 1129, visible in photographs shared by the city.
The Community Development Block Grant program provides funding for community infrastructure and economic development projects in Kansas municipalities.
City officials described the award as "exciting news" that has now become official with Toland's announcement.
Further details about the specific playground equipment planned for Wilson Park and the project timeline were not immediately available.
