Arkansas City Proclaims May 2 as Cinco de Mayo Day in Honor of Tacolalah Festival

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Commissioner Charles Tweedy III read a proclamation at the April 7 City Commission meeting recognizing May 2, 2026, as Cinco de Mayo Day in Arkansas City, a tradition tied to the annual Tacolalah festival.

Tacolalah Committee member Tammy Lanman-Henderson accepted the proclamation on behalf of the event.

Tacolalah is Arkansas City's premier multicultural festival, celebrating Latino culture through music, dance, food and art. The inaugural event was held in May 2019 and has since become a community tradition.

This year's festival will take place Saturday, May 2, at Wilson Park, with activities running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Ark City Rec Color Run will kick off the day at 9 a.m., with registration opening at 8 a.m. Participants can sign up at arkcityrec.recdesk.com. Arkansas City Rec is sponsoring the Color Run.

Festival attendees can also catch Mariachi de Ark City, who will take the stage at 10:15 a.m. The group will also perform at the USD 470 Arkansas City Public Schools spring concert the evening before, offering an early preview ahead of their Tacolalah appearance.
