Arkansas City Honors Former City Clerk and Treasurer with Dedication Ceremony

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Friends, family and city officials gathered at City Hall Monday to dedicate a plaque honoring Michael Cox for his decades of service to the City of Arkansas City.

Cox served the city from 1975 to 2008, holding the roles of both City Clerk and City Treasurer. Over the course of his career, he was recognized for his leadership, dedication and commitment to the community. He was known for filling in wherever he was needed and for building lasting relationships with those around him.

Among his contributions, Cox founded the ACE Chronicles, a city newsletter created to highlight employee contributions, share updates and keep staff connected. He also established the ACE Golf Fun-O-Rama, an event that became a lasting tradition for the city.

The plaque was crafted locally by Schmidt Jewelers. Cox's daughters, Amy Cox-Whitford and Michaelene Contreras, arranged for the dedication. City officials also recognized the late former Commissioner Charles Jennings, whose support helped make the plaque possible.

Cox is a proud Air Force veteran and lifelong Arkansas City resident.
