ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — The city of Arkansas City officially opened the new Wilson Park Pickleball Courts Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the latest addition to one of the city's most popular parks.

The courts opened May 26 and have already seen strong community use, according to the city. The project transformed the former tennis courts at Wilson Park into four dedicated pickleball courts.

The project was funded through a combination of grants, community partnerships and support from local pickleball advocates. The Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Legacy Foundation were among those credited with helping make the project possible.

City officials described the courts as another investment in recreational opportunities and quality of life for residents and visitors and hinted that more improvements to Wilson Park are planned.

"We're not done yet. Stay tuned. There's more to come," the city said in a statement.
