Arkansas City Advances Wilson Park Splash Pad, Sewer Main Replacement Projects

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Construction crews made significant progress this week on two separate infrastructure projects in Arkansas City, including the installation of concrete at the future Wilson Park Splash Pad site and the start of a large sewer main replacement on the city's north side.

At Wilson Park, crews completed water line installation earlier in the week to supply the splash pad's future water features, prepared the site for a concrete pour Thursday and placed the concrete Friday morning.

"It's one of those milestones where the project really starts to take shape, and we're enjoying watching it come together step by step," the city said.

The city has branded the splash pad effort under the tagline "Making a Splash, Arkansas City."

Separately, work has begun in the area of Linden and Birch streets, between C Street and D Street, to replace a large sewer main. All customer service taps connected to the line will also be replaced as part of the project, meaning all infrastructure along the city easement in that section will be new upon completion.

The work is expected to take approximately two to three weeks to complete. Sewer service to customers in the area is not expected to be affected during construction.
