Arkansas City Accepting Items for New Community Time Capsule

Arkansas City, KS — The City of Arkansas City is accepting submissions for a new community time capsule set to be buried at noon Friday, June 5, on the City Hall lawn.

The project follows a previous time capsule buried in 1976 that was unearthed in 2021 during the city's 150th anniversary celebration.

Community members are encouraged to submit photos, letters, memorabilia and other small items that reflect life in Arkansas City today. All submitted items will be reviewed prior to placement to ensure they are appropriate for long-term preservation and available space.

The capsule is planned to be reopened in 50 years.

Items may be dropped off at City Hall or coordinated through Communication Director Shana Adkisson at sadkisson@arkansascityks.gov.
