ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — The design phase for Arkansas City's new fire station is 50 percent complete, city staff announced Tuesday. Staff and fire department personnel recently met with the project's design-build team, including Crossland Construction and Tessere Architecture, to select specific fixtures and materials. These final selections will allow the team to generate accurate construction cost estimates as the city prepares for the next phase of the development.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Arkansas City is moving forward with a multiphase housing project on a 101-acre tract of land. City staff reported meeting with Lange Real Estate late last month to review design concepts featuring single-family homes and duplexes. The city currently operates under a memorandum of understanding with the developer and expects to review a formal draft developer's agreement for the first phase of the project by early August.
Senior housing project proposed near Wilson Park
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — A new senior housing development may be coming to the north and west sides of Wilson Park, according to city officials. A private developer has secured financing for the project, which aligns with the city's Wilson Park Master Plan. The developer is currently refining the construction plans and is expected to present the formal proposal to the city commission in the near future.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — New playground equipment at Wilson Park will soon go out for bid following a recommended design presentation from LK Architecture. If the bidding process moves quickly, city officials anticipate construction will begin in September or October. The playground renovations are expected to be completed by late fall, preparing the park for full use by the spring.
Commission sets special meeting for revenue-neutral budget
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — The city commission scheduled a special budget session for next Wednesday at noon to discuss the upcoming fiscal year. Commissioners indicated a consensus to not exceed the revenue-neutral rate, which ensures the city does not collect more property tax revenue than the previous year due to valuation changes. Municipalities planning to exceed the rate are required by state law to notify Cowley County by July 20.
Local official recognized for service on regional airport board
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Arkansas City Manager Randy Frazer was commended Tuesday for eight years of service representing the region on the Wichita Airport Advisory Board. Frazer, who recently completed his tenure on the board, received a commemorative plaque and noted the vital importance of the Wichita airport to rural communities in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. Commissioners praised the service as a significant honor that positively impacted Arkansas City's regional reputation.
