New data from the Kansas Department of Revenue shows that local sales tax distributed to McPherson in October is down 3.9% from a year ago, in line with similar cities around the state. Use tax, which tends to come from online and out-of-state purchases, is down 5.2%, in contrast to the same cities. McPherson County does not compare directly with a year ago, because the local sales tax rate rose from 1.5% to 2%, effective April 1, 2026.

The October distribution mostly reflects sales made in August. Retailers send the tax to the state the month after a sale, and the state pays it out the month after that.
